Notice: All original 97 shotguns have short chambers!
Please have your chamber length checked before shooting your 1897.
I can measure your chamber and lengthen it to 2 3/4 inch also ream a longer forcing cone. The forcing cone is at the end of the chamber, which acts like a funnel. The longer the cone, the less felt recoil.  Which results in a better shot pattern and reduced pressures on your gun.
